Salary: $48,000-$53,000/yr. for well-qualified individuals. Salary is determined based upon experience and education well as internal equity.
Hours: 40 per week, Monday to Friday, with occasional evening hours required

Job Summary: New Day Children’s Center is hiring an executive director for our childcare and preschool programs! We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed individual who wants to make a difference in the lives of young children and their families, while effectively and efficiently running all Center operations. The Director promotes the social, physical, and intellectual growth of the children under his/her care and fosters a supportive and encouraging environment for both children and teachers while promoting and facilitating collaborative relationships with parents.
The Center Director is responsible for maintaining our high center standards in partnership with NYS OCFS regulations.
Primary Roles & Responsibilities:
- Ensure a safe, happy, and stimulating environment for children
- Work with Program Manager to manage and coordinate curricula with staff that complies with state and federal requirements
- Communicate and meet with parents regarding their children and the center’s policies
- Oversee classroom staff ensuring appropriate trainings are obtained and reinforced, agency best practices and policies are implemented, provide timely performance evaluations.
- Ensure effective operation of classrooms including all aspects of programs; safety and educational standards in accordance with local, state and federal regulations, licensing requirements and company policies
- Ensure that Center facilities are safe for children and comply with laws and regulations
- Hire and train new staff members
- Communicate issues proactively to staff / Board and work to create solutions to problems
- Supervise Assistant Director, Bookkeeper, Program Manager, Teachers and Kitchen Staff
- Complete ongoing training and courses to remain up to date on daycare standards and procedures

Qualifications & Education Requirements:
- Must have a 2 year degree in Early Childhood Education with a plan of study leading to a Bachelors Degree, two years of full time teaching experience in a child day care center and two years of experience supervising staff.
- Must enjoy children and be able to interact with them sincerely and effectively.
- Must be able to relate to and respect parents from all socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Must be in good physical and mental health.
- Must be able to lift and carry at least 40 pounds.
- Must be able to communicate effectively and respectfully with board members, administrative, teaching and kitchen staff.
- Must be willing and able to perform any job duties as needed.
Duties:
- Arrive each day with a positive attitude.
- Greet all parents and children upon arrival to the center, office or classroom.
- Responsible for providing all teaching staff, aides, interns and administrative staff with mentoring and positive guidance as needed.
- Receive all visitors to the center in a courteous and professional manner.
- Receive and post payments as needed.
- Open all incoming mail.
- Responsible for classroom visits and written observations for all teaching staff.
- Responsible for all probationary period and annual staff and administrative evaluations.
- Responsible for adhering and maintaining policies and procedures that allow the center to maintain compliance with all OCFS regulations.
- Responsible for administering medications as needed.
- Responsible for the health, safety and well being of all children at the center.
- Responsible for reading, and replying to all incoming emails, and phone calls.
- Responsible for maintaining enrollment.
- Review bi-weekly payroll.
- Work with the book keeper to create and present the annual preliminary budget to the board of directors.
- Responsible for maintaining CACFP documentation and contracts.
- Responsible for maintaining OGS food contract and all necessary documents for orders and delivery.
- Responsible for overseeing and maintaining philosophy, goal s and mission of the center.
- Responsible for requesting updates and maintenance of the childcare facilities.
- Responsible for maintaining a positive relationship with Asbury United Methodist Church.
- Maintain documents, contract and communication with the Watertown City School District to support the UPK program.
- Responsible for creating an environment that promotes a developmentally appropriate program for children 8 weeks to 12 years of age.
- All other job duties as needed.
Monthly Duties:
- Responsible for reviewing monthly financial statements.
- Responsible for attending and providing a report for the monthly board meeting.
- Responsible for reviewing monthly bank statements for all accounts.
- Conduct evening staff meetings as needed.
- Submit monthly claim to CACFP for reimbursement.
- Submit monthly news to the administrative assistant for the monthly newsletter.
Periodic Duties:
- Enter invoice charges and make payments as needed.
- Be available for parent teacher conferences as needed.
- Be available for staff and parents as needed.
- Attend center functions as needed.
- Complete mandatory staff trainings as required by OCFS
Other: Employment is conditional pending satisfactory medical exam and TB test, receipt and clearance from the NYS Office of Children and Family Services, NYS Central Register for Child Abuse and Neglect, and the NYS Criminal Justice Center. New Day Children’s Center is a substance free workplace. Physical requirements of the job include standing, sitting, walking, and the ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
