Maryann Mooney-Rondon ****** President

 

Maryann joined our Board in April 2000. She served as Vice President until becoming president. Maryann is the Fiscal Coordinator of the North Country Prenatal/ Prenatal Council, Inc. and Director of Finance for Regional Medical Management. She has her Bachelors Degree in Accounting and is a parent of two children formerly enrolled at New Day.

 

Peter Gibbs ******* Vice President

 

Mr. Gibbs joined our Board in July of 2002. He is currently the vice president of the Board and a member of the finance and personnel committee and was co-coordinator of the Playground Project. Peter graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1980 with a B.S in Wildlife Ecology and also received an M.S. in Resource Management and Administration from Antioch Graduate School in 1991. He was on the Vestry of Trinity Episcopal Church for five years and also chaired their Outreach Committee for five years.  Peter is now the St. Lawrence Program Biologist for Ducks Unlimited.  Peter and his wife, Linda, have two children that attend New Day.

 

Laurie Podvin ****** Treasurer

 

 Laurie is a Certified Public Accountant and partner at Poulsen and Podvin, PC. She graduated from Nazareth College with a degree in accounting and has been in public practice for over 16 years. Laurie has served as Treasurer and chair of the finance committee for the New Day Board since September 1995.

 

Katie Malinowski ****** Secretary

 

Katie is a Natural Resources Specialist with the NYS Tug Hill Commission.  She received her bachelor degree in environmental studies from SUNY Binghamton and a Master of Science degree in Environmental Science from Indiana University at Bloomington.  She joined our board in 2005, and has had children enrolled in New Day since 2000. 

  

Stella Garitz

 

Stella was one of nine people who formed the first Board of Directors for New Day Children’s Center in 1985. She was the first President of the Board and served in that position for eight years. She has chaired the Facilities Committee since then, and acts as the liaison between New Day and the Asbury Board of Trustees. Stella retired after 25 years as library media specialist for the Watertown City School District. She holds a Bachelors Degree from St. Lawrence University and a Masters Degree in Library Science from Syracuse University.

 

Lynn Morgan 

 

Lynn has been a member of our board since October of 2005. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from SUNY Oneonta with her certification in elementary education.  After having taught kindergarten, first, second and third grades for 11 years, she earned her Master's from Syracuse University as a library media specialist.  Following 23 years as an elementary librarian, she is now enjoying retirement.  As a professional storyteller, she looks forward to opportunities to continue sharing stories with audiences of all ages in many different locations.  Lynn and Stella have been working on improving the New Day library making it more accessible for the staff and children.

 

Linda Garrett

 

Linda has been a Board Member since 2002. She currently serves on the Fundraising Committee and Playground Committee. Linda and her husband are also the parents of two children attending New Day. Linda is the Executive Director of Tug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust. She attended SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, NY and holds an MS in Outdoor Recreation. Linda is also Treasurer for the Felts Mills Beautification Committee and Member of the NYS Land Trust Alliance Council. .

 

Lesley Guarino

 

Lesley joined the New Day Board in September of 2004 and sits on the fundraising committee as well as the playground committee before she joined the board. She has a daughter, Julia, who used to attend New Day. Lesley is the advertising account executive with Time Warner Media Sales.

Pam Shuman

Pam attended University of Wisconsin - Whitewater for 3 years with a major in Biology, and graduated from University of Wisconsin - Madison with a BS in Nursing. She moved to northern New York in 1985, and lives with her husband and three teenagers in Watertown. Pam is currently treasurer for the YMCA Blue Sharks Swim Team, a member of Asbury United Methodist Church who also sits on the Board of Trustees. She is a corresponding secretary for Alliance to the Medical Society of Jefferson County, a member of the Playground Committee and Landscaping/Gardening sub-committee for New Day Children’s Center.

 

Wendi Ward 

Wendi is a new board  member as of November 2006. She currently serves on the Fundraising Committee. Wendi and her husband, Daniel, are the parents of Claire, who attends New Day. Wendi works part-time in the special events department at WPBS-TV public television. She also delivers for Meals on Wheels. She has a BA in Spanish from SUNY Potsdam and is currently enrolled at JCC to obtain her paralegal certificate. Wendi & Daniel moved here in 2004 after traveling for business for nine years, and are from Rochester and Syracuse respectively!

Marianne Scott 

Marianne is a new board member as of December 2006. She was born and educated in Germany. She is married to Dale Scott and has two daughters and five grandchildren. She enjoys traveling, painting and tennis. Marianne is a retired bank quality control manager/auditor assistant and a member of Asbury Church.  

Michele White 

Michele is a new board member as of November 2006.  She currently serves on the Fundraising Committee.  Michele and her husband, Jason, are the parents of Madison, 4 years, and Michael, 2 years, who both attend New Day.  Michele graduated from SUNY Oswego with a Master's Degree in Human Services/Counseling.  She has worked for various hospitals in the departments of Mental Health, Addictions Therapy, and Neuropsychology.  She was recently licensed as a Mental Health Therapist by the State of New York.  She enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, and teaches an occasional Yoga Class at JCC.
